This is a poem written by Torkom Saraydarian. He wrote more than 100 books and helped many people in innumerable ways. This poem shows how humble he is and is a real inspiration.
Sometimes, my Lord,
when I do something good,
creative, and noble,
I hear a whisper
in my ear.
It says,
“Heaven will reward you.
”My Lord,
I try always to ignore
such a whisper,
and I want to reject
any reward
that the heavens may offer
to me .
I cannot pay
for many, many lives
for the gifts
I received from You .
My debt is so great
that I like
never to think about reward.
My greatest reward
is the reward
that I will give
to myself,
and that reward will be
to work harder
and better and stand
in greater sacrifice
in Your Will.
I do not need
any other reward
except
only one, which
is lit always
in my heart.
That reward, my Lord,
will be
heavier burdens
put on my shoulders
with YourHands.
My Lord,
when I come
to the heavenly realms,
I do not need
Your paradise,
peace, rest, glory,
crowns.
Please send me back
wherever You think
I can help,
into darkness, into pain
and suffering,
into loneliness and
heavy labor.
All these I cherish
more than Your paradise.
There are many who
crave
for such things.
Let them have them,
but I need labor, endless labor and striving.
I need to help You
in Your Infinite Labor,
my Lord.
